Just 45 minutes to the east of Hobart, on the way to the very popular Tasman Peninsula, is a little spot of paradise where you can visit two great cellar doors with some beautiful wines, accompanying restaurants and fabulous views. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy a relaxed afternoon of wine, food and vistas! Congratulations to Bangor Wine & Oyster Farm who received our "1 door award". Looking for a great spot to spend a sunny afternoon? Tasmania's Derwent Valley wine region is just 20 minutes drive from Hobart and is home to a small, but select, number of cellar doors. Being a cool climate region, there is some beautiful Pinot Noir and Chardonnay produced, as well as a number of other great cool climate varietals. There are also some fantastic winery restaurants, with spectacular mountain and water views, perfect for a relaxed afternoon of sensational food and wine. Congratulations to Moorilla who received a "2 door" award and Stefano Lubiana who received a "1 Door" award. Refer to our Derwent Valley page for detailed reviews and ratings of individual cellar doors visited.
The Coonawarra wine region, with its layers of red soil on limestone base, is best known for its red wines, particularly its Cabernet Sauvignon, but also produces a nice variety of other wines including Shiraz, Chardonnay, Riesling & Sauvignon Blanc. Home to over 20 cellar doors situated along a picturesque, 22 kilometre, vine lined stretch of highway, this a very easy region to navigate with a great mix of large and small cellar doors. With some nice boutique accommodation, great eateries and pretty settings, we always enjoy our visits to this region. Congratulations to Rymill, Balnaves & Wynns who were each awarded "1 Door" and Koonara who received our "Hidden Gem" award. Check out our overview of the region on our home page http://www.cellardoorscore.com/ and detailed reviews of the cellar doors visited at http://www.cellardoorscore.com/coonawarra.html
Châteauneuf du Pape, one of our favourite regions to pronounce 😉 is home to some spectacular wines and a great place to try a few out is Cave du Verger des Papes A centuries old historic site with five rooms carved into the limestone rock, including one containing two thirty hectolitre vats of Gallo-Roman origin previously used to ferment the wine, the cellar offers for sale more than 150 wines.
With a daily selection of 3 or 4 wines to taste and a passionate team that is happy to walk you through the caves and explain the history and the extensive rules for the appellation, if you are ever in the region, be sure to venture into the somewhat ominous looking cave entry! 😀🍷
Sticking with France for the first of our favourite experience recaps, Olivier LeFlaive is situated in the spectacular village of Puligny-Montrachet 😍 Set within a charming 17th century building, there are a number of tasting options, including a a fantastic tour/tasting/lunch offering. Extremely informative, this tour is well worth it for those wanting a great introduction to the Burgundy wine region and to sample some of the amazing wines and food that the region offers. There are also a number of other sensational wine (and food) offerings in the region and we would highly recommend a visit if you get the chance!

The Geelong wine region is just over an hour southwest of Melbourne and a number of the cellar doors offer magnificent views out over the vineyards to Port Phillip Bay. The wineries tend to be smaller and a little less busy than those of it's cousins across the bay in the Mornington Peninsula, thereby offering a slightly different experience. With some beautiful cooler climate wines, sensational dining options and spectacular settings, this is a fantastic region to spend a little time relaxing and indulging! Congratulations to Terindah Estate, Oakdene, Shadowfaxand Basils Farm who were each awarded "1 Door". Detailed reviews and ratings of individual cellar doors visited can be found via our sites Geelong page.
