When you think of Hawaii, wine is most likely not the first thing that comes to mind, however there are a couple of wineries scattered across the islands that make both traditional wines along with some interesting tropical fruit wines. Maui produces the bulk of Hawaii's wine and Maui Wines is home to a number of locally grown varietals across its 23 acre vineyard including Syrah, Malbec, Chenin Blanc and Gewürztraminer. It also produces a number of different, and quite unique, pineapple wines. The cellar door is housed in an historical cottage, built especially for when the King of Hawaii visited, and is set amongst gardens which are home to some beautiful old trees and views out to the ocean. The cellar door experience includes a great tour of the wine making facilities, which are built around historic buildings, as well as the gardens. If you are in the area, it is a nice experience and well worth a visit. Check out our website for our detailed review of Maui Wines.
