The King Valley, which is in the foothills of the alpine national park, is a great place to stop off on your way to the snow fields and particularly the area around Milawa which is a food and wine lovers dream.
The area is particularly known for Italian style wine varietals such as Prosecco, Sangiovese and Barbera as well as a variety of other Italian styles.
There are also a range of great eating options in the area from well known stores such as Milawa Mustards, The Olive Shop Milawa and Milawa Cheese Factory to an amazing dining experience with matching wines at Brown Brothers.
The main wine areas in the King Valley are quite flat so bike riding is a big part of the visit for many people. We actually walked from our accommodation in Milawa to Sam Miranda winery, which is on the outskirts of Oxley, along a very good path beside the highway.
