The cellar door is one of the most northern of the cellar doors in Coonawarra and is located just off the main highway. Entry is via an amazing tree lined driveway that is in excellent condition

There is plenty of parking in front of the building

This cellar door has a beautiful setting with lovely lawns dotted with pretty deciduous trees and surrounded by vineyards. You then get to walk by a wonderful water feature filled with gold fish and lily pads, not to mention the amazing horse sculpture that is the inspiration for the labels

Commercial

The cellar door was opened in 1992 and the design still looks modern and well designed. You are also invited to walk up the further two levels of the building, where you can look out over the winery on one side and take in the beautiful views out into the grounds on the other side. The tasting room has very high ceilings, terracotta tiles and couches and bar stools surrounding wine barrels

There was a very small wait, but there were a number of groups being served when we arrived

Both staff members had a good knowledge of the wines

The staff were friendly and personable even when they were quite busy

A really good selection of indoor and outdoor toys, plus if you ask the assistants they can provide you with some crushed up crackers to feed the fish outside

There is a very nice story behind the labels, which are inspired by a horse that the owner rescued from the knackery that then went on to compete in equestrian events at the Rome Olympics!
Don't forget to take a photo of the bottle wall behind the tasting bench, you'll be surprised by the optical illusion!!
