The Verdict
To "Cellarbrate": Amazing historical buildings making you feel like you've travelled back in time. Huge variety of wines to taste, friendly and knowledgeable staff, good membership benefits, great additional offerings including a self-guided tour through the cellars. 2 doors awarded To "Wine about": Nothing, however we did note on our previous visit that service slowed a little with the arrival of a large group, however, the group had not given advance notice, so this is understandable How many bottles did we buy: 11 and 18 Suitable for: Couples, Groups (have another bench for large groups), wine and history lovers Visited April 2015 and October 2018 |

On our most recent visit, our small group were the only ones there and service was very attentive.
On our previous visit, there was no wait initially, then a large tour group came in unexpectedly and the staff were a bit overstretched. We did note that they only had one of the two registers going which probably made service a bit slower as well. Excellent knowledge of the wines and very good at guiding us through the list based on likes and dislikes, which is really required with such an extensive range on tasting
Very friendly and obliging local lady, with great knowledge of the wines. Encouraged us to look around and happy to share some history of the place which made the experience more personal
Yes, both self guided and guided (by appointment). Also offered (by appointment) is a Winemakers Secret Art of Blending experience, where you are able to come along and have a go at blending your own wine

There is a café on the property, a short distance away from the cellar door (closed Tues-Wed) We were lucky enough to have lunch here on our second visit and it was really delicious. There are both indoor and outdoor dining spaces, including a lovely big open balcony that looked over the river

This is a very interesting and enjoyable winery to visit and we also understand there are plans to further enhance the experience in the near future with new and enhanced offerings. We were encouraged to look around the open top fermenter area and the huge cellars underneath the cellar door which has some amazing building techniques. The cellars also have a mix of huge old and new barrels to look at and the areas outside are filled with some beautiful old buildings.
