PiedmontPiedmont is the home of Barolo and Barbaresco, two small hilltop towns that are famous for their Nebbiolo wines, but both providing very different styles. Barbaresco is a small pretty town situated on a hilltop (as is the case with most of the towns/villages is this area!) and surrounded by vineyards. On the clear day that we were there, you could get an almost 180 degree view of the snow capped mountains of the French Alps and the Swiss Alps....quite stunning! We based ourselves in Alba which is only about 10 minutes away, but a much bigger town with more facilities. If you are feeling like something other than Italian food, there was an amazing Japanese Restaurant there named Haru. We also visited Barolo and Neive, where we had lunch at a wonderful restaurant called La Contea, with one of the most friendly hosts we came across. The area is also famous for it's truffles. |
