Margaret River

The last of the major wine regions that was on our list to visit; and it certainly did not disappoint.  We have never tasted so many beautiful Chardonnays (among many other varietals) and had so many amazing meals at winery restaurants.  We actually visited here for 3 weeks and only managed to get through approximately one third of the cellar doors in the area!

The region is surrounded by ocean on three sides which we were told produced a Bordeaux like climate which particularly lends itself to producing fine Chardonnays and Cabernet Merlots.
 
The most useful tool for our stay here was the "Margaret River Region Map & Guide", which in our opinion is one of the best maps of a wine region we have found so far.  Make sure you drop into the visitors centre on the main street of Margaret River township and get your hands on one before attempting to navigate through the 100+ cellar door options!
