Douro Valley
On the main road along the side of the Douro river. The driveway is steep and skinny (only one car wide) except on the corners so we are told the best way to tackle it is to look up or down the driveway at each corner before ascending/descending and then pass any oncoming traffic at the corners. If there is nobody in the tasting room just walk up the stairs to hotel reception

There is small visitors carpark just at the bottom of the stairs. The undercover parking further up the hill is for the hotel guests
A purpose built building housing a very beautiful hotel, we were glad to see that the old original winery building has been restored and now acts as the tasting room
Boutique
The tasting room is in a restored building with polished slate tile floors. The tasting bench is at the back of the room and there are also a number of wine barrels around the room and a large wooden table in the centre

The lady who showed us around had a great knowledge of the winery, it's owner and the hotel. She was also able to explain the port rules very well
Friendly and very helpful staff. English, Portuguese and Spanish are spoken

There is a restaurant on site where a light lunch can be taken by pre-arrangement or the hotel runs Foz do Tavora bar/restaurant at the base of the hotel right on the river. We ate here and had a nice meal overlooking the river
