The Coonawarra wine region, with its layers of red soil on limestone base, is best known for its red wines, particularly its Cabernet Sauvignon, but also produces a nice variety of other wines including Shiraz, Chardonnay, Riesling & Sauvignon Blanc. Home to over 20 cellar doors situated along a picturesque, 22 kilometre, vine lined stretch of highway, this a very easy region to navigate with a great mix of large and small cellar doors. With some nice boutique accommodation, great eateries and pretty settings, we always enjoy our visits to this region. Congratulations to Rymill, Balnaves & Wynns who were each awarded "1 Door" and Koonara who received our "Hidden Gem" award.
