It is actually produced from grapes grown and processed in Portugal’s spectacularly beautiful Douro region, which became an official appellation in 1756, making it the third oldest after Chianti and Tokaj!
While there are over 100 varieties of grapes that may be used in port production, there are mainly 5 that are grown and used, with port production being very heavily regulated and controlled, much more so than we had appreciated before arriving here!😀🍷
